How to use Google Classroom

We are using the Education platform Google Classroom.
Please log your student into their new FLY account using the instructions below.

Step 1 - Logging in with FLY Account

  1. Open any browser (preferably Google Chrome).
  2. Go to classroom.google.com
  3. Click on the button Go to Classroom
  4. Enter the email we provided (firstname.lastname@foreignlanguageforyouth.org) then click Next.
  5. Enter the passwords we provided then click Next.
  6. Now create your own password. Please write it down!
  7. If there is a welcome massage, read it and click Accept.
  8. Next, click on I’m a Student. If you are not asked for this, you are trying to sign in with a personal account.
  9. Click Get Started. You are now signed into Google Classroom.

Click here to read or download instructions on how to log into Goggle Classroom.

Step 2 - Accessing Meet Link

  • Now that you are signed in, your student’s class should appear at the top of the page. If you are being asked to enter the class code, use the code we sent you in your welcome email.
  • Once you see the class, click on the Join button.
  • On the home page of your classroom, you will see the Stream which is where you will find updates and comments from your teacher and other students. This is also where you will find the link to your Google Meet live class. Please see the image below to locate the Meet link. Your student will only be able to join the live class if they are signed into the FLY account.

Step 3 - Turning in Assignments

There are two ways to complete and hand in your worksheets.

One way is to print your worksheet, complete it and either scan it or take a photo of it. Save the image to your computer and turn it in using the tools on Google Classroom. Click here to view or print instructions on how to use this function.

The second way is to use Kami. This is an extension you add to your browser so you can complete the PDF worksheet without printing it. Click here for detailed instructions on how to use Kami.

How the Classroom works

We have structured our class so your student will have one or two live Google Meet classes a week (depending on the class).

We post a new lesson/s every week that will always include an instructional video, a book page, and an activity worksheet.

Your student’s teacher will be monitoring the class, answering questions, encouraging participation and just being available for the class outside of the Google Meet class time.

How to Use Google Classroom

Below is a very good and easy to understand tutorial on how to use Google Classroom. It goes over how to log into the site and where things are and what you can do in the classroom.

If you do not care for the presenter there are numerous other tutorials on You Tube that can show you how to use it. Your teacher will be in and out of the classroom, so please feel free to leave them a comment any time.
